As an A-Level student, I have had to choose a theme for my final project and decided I wanted to do a theme that is powerful and covers a topic that needs to be talked about more. Therefore I decided to base my project "No Means No" on sexual assault and abuse.

The Message Behind My Photos
I wanted my photos for this project to capture the strong emotions felt by victims of sexual assault and abuse.
What I wanted to capture:
Loneliness
Isolation
Upset
Anger
Dehumanization
Entrapment
Exhaustion
Defeated
I wanted to represent these to show the pain and suffering that victims go through to continue to live daily life after their experiences. I used dramatic lighting, shadows and facial expressions to do this. I wanted the photos to not just be the type of image you glance at, enjoy, and then move on from. I wanted them to be the kind of image you have to stare into and ponder about the meaning, shocking and not necessarily pleasant to the eye. I wanted them to be intimate, brutal and raw, rather than hiding the truth of their message as sexual assault is not something that should be hidden away.
